«The Hammockery» (from «hammock») is located in the center of the Highlands in Scotland. It is a modular building used to host hikers for a night in the shelter, but also as a secure meeting place with the typical local cattle : the «Highlanders».
Such activities attract visitors to the region but the building is also intended for local social life. Its flexibility makes it a place where events and performances can be hosted and where local artists can reside. The building refers to vernacular architecture, with its central interior hearth and promiscuity with animals.
The «cupola» term used for the «rooftop», echoes the architecture of the local whiskey distilleries. Such structure allows for the ventilation of the large fermentation tanks and prevents explosions and fires. Here, it allows the smoke of the peat fire to escape from the central hearth.
